I should start by saying I bought the first Modern Warfare the day it came out, but have since been off and on with the franchise since I believe it has drastically declined in quality and gameplay. But here are my pros and cons of Ghosts. Cons first.
CONS:
- Respawning is the worst I've ever experienced, not only in COD but in any game, period. In one match on Freefall, a bunch of players on the enemy team found every respawn point and camped there so nobody could respawn without instantly dying. The match was instantly ruined and the game unplayable. I don't know who was in charge of making the respawn mechanic of the game, but that developer did an awful, awful job (and probably shouldn't even have a job in the video game business). The terrible respawning kills the fun of the game so much. When you do respawn, you literally have to watch every angle, as enemies can literally spawn ANYWHERE around you. It would be nice if there was some kind of battle front instead of random spawning, so people aren't just running around crazily.
- Host has noticeable advantage. I bought COD Ghosts last week, only because there is absolutely nothing else to play on the PS4, and the thing I've been noticing consistently is the host, and the host's team, has the tactical advantage with an extra half second of speed. It's lag of a different kind, but changes the tide of the game.
PROS:
- Game modes are fun. As always, I love the variety of COD game modes. Drop Zone, Infected and Domination are some of my favorites.
- The addition of dogs was a nice idea. They are fun to have and the mechanic seems to work well for the most part.
Overall, this is another mediocre chapter in the COD franchise. When I play these games now, I think back to what Modern Warfare was like and how smooth it played. It had a certain "feel" about it that clicked with people. That "feel" now is gone to me. Ghosts is a fairly good time-waster, but not the gaming addiction previous installments were.
