Eh...spawns were just as bad in BO2 from what I've seen and read (especially with all the reports of spawn trapping, which was very easy to do on some maps), and maps were not very well-designed at all.

 

Some see it simply from an aesthetic standpoint while others, like me, simply disliked how 99% of them were tiny and simplistic as hell, thus only promoting one playstyle (rushing), and 1-2 weapon types utterly dominated the entire community (SMGs and shotguns, followed by ARs) yet camping was still just as prevalent, if not easier to do. If anything, people knowing where you are made it easier since it made them try to come at you, especially for revenge (and hardly anyone ever used the MMS) and you'd either die from traps or at least alert the camper to your approach, and with only 2-3 linear pathways to take, you could hardly outflank them, leaving spamming limited explosives (for which they may have a Trophy System), or bum rushing them and hoping for the best.

 

On larger maps, campers can at least be stranded in a section of a map once you know where they are, allowing you to keep to action in other parts of the map, effectively subtracting a player from the opposing team while the usually greater complexity gives more flanking options than the camper will usually be able to keep an eye on.

 

There is really little actual difference in kill time for guns between BO2 and Ghosts. The bigger difference IS the lag being much less and hit detection much better in Ghosts than it was in BO2, which gave the illusion of "more health" ("bullet sponges") or "weaker guns" and so on in BO2. In terms of specs though, the guns are not much different at all. ARs were and still are, on average, 3-5 shot kills, SMGs 4-6, LMGs 3-5, Snipers 1-2, and shotguns varied on range and spread minus the KSG at 1-2 shots given its slug round.

 

And yeah, many ran around, but does that necessarily equate to good gameplay? Not exactly. If anything, for people like me, it became repetitive and boring to do because it was pretty much the exact same gameplays every single match. There was little real challenge or thinking involved. All you had to do was react a split second faster than whoever you ended up kissing within 1-3 seconds of when you start sprinting each spawn, spray from the hip half the time, then repeat.

 

That's NOT to say that I hate run and gun, and small maps, period. I just don't like any map/weapon type/etc. SO totally dominating all the others. I like the way Ghosts is because it offers that variety. One match, I could be running and gunning on Free Fall, Strikezone, Octane, Sovereign, etc, then moving more cautiously with LMGs, Marksmans, or Snipers on Overlord, Stonehaven, Whiteout, etc, then a mix with ARs on Tremor, Warhawk, etc. Basically, it's not nearly as much the same game every time. SMGs and shotguns dominated on BO2 on virtually every map in virtually every game mode, but I have yet to see LMGs, Snipers, and Marksman Rifles dominating a similar way in Ghosts. Yes, they may have an advantage on certain maps like Stonehaven, but switch the map to Free Fall or Strikezone, or something and they'd be at a disadvantaged to SMGs and shotguns.

 

As much as some people may believe, there is nothing specifically dictating that CoD is "meant to be" fast-paced, run and gun, "arcade shooter" action. In fact, there are no real rules outside of "no cheating" saying how people are "meant to play", whether run and gun, camping, or in-between. If someone, or even entire teams (which I have yet to see) camp, then that's how they choose to play as it is allowed. Not being able to stand it and having such huge problems with it is the problem of that part of the community, not the game for "allowing it (more)", and the same goes the other way, which is why as much as I disliked how BO2 functioned, I didn't complain on the forums that things that catered to the rushers (which 99% of the game did by default) should be nerfed. I simply tried to play as best I could with what was available to me.
